That's So Not Cool

The question of what is “cool” can have thousands of answers depending on whom you ask. When it comes down to it, everyone is going to have a different answer to that question. The media is constantly trying to convince the public that those latest brands we see are the best or the most popular. Media advertising can have a huge influence on what kind of things we go out and buy; however, everyone is still going to form their own opinions of what is “cool” and what is not. The kinds of clothing and other items that are popular are continually changing. Even clothing and shoe brands that were popular less than five years ago when I was in High School seem to no longer be as popular today. Clothing or brand names from certain stores are still being sold and advertised, yet they do not seem as popular as they were in High School. Does this mean they are no longer “cool”? That may or may not be the case.
I think that we all form our own opinions of what brands and styles are the best, but while some of us follow our opinions and buy what we think is the best, many of us simply go with the latest trends. I think this was even more the case when we were in High School because everyone wanted to try to fit in. However, once we get to college, this changes a little bit and we no longer worry as much about wearing or buying brands that will make us seem “cool”. We are able to use those opinions we have and wear what we like and what we consider popular. Another five years from now, I feel that this change will continue and there really is not any way around it. Just as society and the media are constantly changing, what’s considered “cool” will always be changing as well.

  1. Do you think kids in high school will ever stop caring about what other people consider "cool"?

  2. Do you think that there are people in college that still feel like they have to wear what is considered 'cool' and care what other people think about their clothing chooses?

  3. I think it would be great if kids could stop worrying about what others think, but sometimes that can be really difficult for kids.Especially when in Middle School or beginning years of High School. Everyone wants to fit in and sometimes that have more negative outcomes. The media can also have a great influence on those kids. Telling them what they need to buy in order to be "cool"

  4. I think people in college still may worry that what they are wearing is considered "cool". However, I think by the time many get to college, they begin to set their own trends and be their own person.

  5. Why do you think these brands go in and out of style so quickly?

  6. Why do you think that things are not as kool today as they were years ago?Are sneakers just sneakers or do the name brand take over the quality/comfortability for which sneaks was originally made for?
