Bank of America had what is being called " a debit card disaster". The customers of the bank fought against the bank's idea to charge their customers 5 dollars each month just for having a debit card. The bank tries to say that they have listened closely to their customers over the last weeks and understand their concern, therefore they have dropped the plan for the debit card fee.The video makes fun of Bank of America because only after the uproar from its customers, does the bank decide to listen to its customers. The video is arguing that Bank of America does not care if the customers are unhappy, they will only change policies if the customers begin to make a big deal about them and then this causes problems for their company. The company seems more important than the customers. Many feel that they should have been listening to their customers routinely in order to make sure they really are a bank that can serve the people's wants and needs. Companies like Bank of America have the responsibility of understanding their customers and making them happy. If the customers are not happy, they are not likely to stay with the company. It just makes sense.
What role do you think satire plays in our society? Websites like Funny or Die and shows like The Colbert Report use satire to make us laugh, but what do you think is the final result for the viewer? Are these merely fun diversions from the work day or do they prompt real social change?
